A major Welsh employer, Consumer Energy Solutions (CES), has recently entered administration, resulting in the loss of nearly 300 jobs. The company, with locations in Swansea and Rhondda Cynon Taf, is owned by City Energy Group, which confirmed it was undergoing a restructuring process. The CES website announced the appointment of administrators and the immediate cessation of trading, leaving employees and creditors in a state of uncertainty.
An anonymous staff member expressed the turmoil within the workforce, highlighting the distressing impact of the news. The company's inability to complete further work for customers adds to the challenges faced by its employees and creditors. The job losses are attributed to the termination of the UK Government-backed energy scheme ECO4, which CES operated. This scheme, set to end this year, assisted homeowners in saving on home energy upgrades.
The administration process will involve direct communication with creditors and employees to determine the next steps and process claims. Creditors with retention of title claims over goods supplied to the company are advised to provide details to CES@kr8.co.uk. However, the company's inability to carry out remedial works or resolve existing complaints poses further challenges for its customers.
The Department of Energy Security and Net Zero has responded by investing an additional £1.5 billion in the Warm Homes Plan, marking the largest public investment to upgrade homes and address fuel poverty. This initiative aims to provide a more sustainable and cost-effective solution for homeowners, potentially mitigating the impact of the ECO4 scheme's termination.
