Hull KR's Brutal 2026 Season Start: Fixtures, Challenges & Title Defense! (2026)

Get ready for a thrilling season ahead as Hull KR gears up for a challenging start to the 2026 campaign! But here's where it gets controversial... Is the club ready to take on the demands of a packed schedule? With a demanding start to the season, Hull KR is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a successful defense of their title. The club's backroom staff and coaches are working tirelessly to create a seamless experience for the players, allowing them to focus solely on their on-field commitments. But the real question is, are they prepared for the challenges ahead?

The Robins' title defense kicks off with a tough away game against Super League newcomers York on February 12th. They then host NRL champions Brisbane Broncos in the World Club Challenge, followed by a trip to Las Vegas to face Leeds Rhinos at Allegiant Stadium on February 28th. It's a packed schedule that will test the club's resilience and adaptability. And it doesn't stop there! Willie Peters' side faces further travel demands with trips to France to take on Catalans Dragons and Toulouse Olympique before the end of April. So, are they ready to take on the challenge?

New assistant coach Ian Watson believes the club has embraced the challenge head-on. "There’s a lot of conversations going on all the time," Watson told Hull Live. "The head of performances have been getting together with the coaching staff and discussing things, but also the commercial and travel side to make sure everything is seamless and allows the players to focus on their jobs."

The reigning champions returned for pre-season training at the end of November after a historic campaign in which they claimed every trophy on offer, capping the most successful season ever seen in East Hull. A reshaped coaching team has brought fresh ideas, with Watson and Luke Gale joining Peters' staff following the departures of Danny Ward and Shaun Kenny-Dowall. Watson, who returned to rugby league after a spell in American rugby union, has been impressed by the squad's mindset and appetite for success.

"The team’s ethos and what they’re about has really stood out in pre-season," Watson said. "They really buy into how they want to train and play, and they try to put their best foot forward in every single session. It’s been really good to be a part of it - and it’s pre-season, so the true test is when you start playing games. But at the moment, everyone is head down and ripping in and trying to achieve the ultimate, which is backing up a successful season from last year."

So, are they ready to take on the challenge? Only time will tell. But one thing's for sure - Hull KR is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a successful season. Will they be able to defend their title and rise to the demands of a packed schedule? Only the players and coaches know for sure. But one thing's for sure - it's going to be an exciting ride!
