Chantelle Cameron is aiming to blaze a trail by adopting three-minute rounds—the same length as men’s bouts—as she pursues a world title in a second weight class. “We’re expecting her to fight three-minute rounds, and we’re confident that will be the case,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, in an interview with Sky Sports.
Cameron’s goal extends beyond the ring: she wants this fight to spark real change and demonstrate that women can compete at three-minute rounds as well as their male counterparts.
“I’m buzzing to be back boxing in the UK, but honestly I’m most excited about the three-minute rounds. I want to perform at my best,” Cameron told Sky Sports.
“I’m doing 10 threes, and I’m absolutely ecstatic. I need to make a statement, prove that women can handle three-minute rounds without compromising performance, and inspire others to follow suit.
My aim is to pave the way for more women to opt for three-minute rounds. Hopefully, I’ll never go back to two-minute rounds.”
Cameron’s motivation is personal: a rematch loss to Irish megastar Katie Taylor remains the lone blemish on her pro record. Cameron believes she would have stopped Taylor in a three-round format, not two, arguing that Taylor was clinging to life in their two-minute contest. She contends that the extra minute would have tipped the balance in her favor and sharpened her knockout potential.
“Three-minute rounds suit me. I’m convinced they’ll benefit me and help me win,” she asserted.
Yet a third showdown with Taylor seems unlikely for now. Bidarian acknowledged that Katie Taylor may not be eager for another clash at this stage of her career, praising Taylor’s extraordinary boxing run and supporting her pursuit of personal priorities as she nears the end of her career.
